you know that they started looking for voting rights because they wanted equal say with men. and women who were the sole heirs of money, or had no man were forced to let men vote contrary to a woman's perspective most of the time.
Ever seen the movie Evelyn? basically it's about the reform of the laws governing children in foster care, because in this story the irish courts wanted both parents in the house, but the mother abandoned her family and it was only the dad at home. same principal in the votes for women. they wern't getting fair representation, they were thought to be inferior humans, property for a very long time in history, and if a man says she's an unfit mother the children became his, no arguing to the courts! Socially and politically men had to reckon with the changes, but grudgingly so at first. Economically, the voting rights came just before or after child labor laws which was a great benefit in the industrial revolution when all those 8-10 year olds were working in the mills an sweat shops of europe because their farm worker parents had no money to support them. Women were allowed to champion the children, and young ladies when they became united in the push for voting. Remember the happiness the mom felt in mary poppins because they were making their voices heard by causing trouble on the steps of the prime minister's house? or the hbo movie um iron wing angels? iron jaw?...no, that's not it exactly, but it was true events. When you get upper class women defying their husbands--openly defying social and traditional norms, not being home evenings with the children, not being home to cook the meals, hanging around with other women and loitering, waiting for the police to find a reason to take them to jail, so that 20 more could be out on the street the next day canvassing for votes. Then, if you have upper classes who are being scrutinized in the news papers and in town meetings, then things tend to change in your favor a little sooner than later.
