I can't find any info on this, but I've been told that running another program could kill off my mcafee. Any help greatly appreciated.

well, "kill" is not what you think...
but problem is that mcafee is a program that is always running in the background scanning and blocking..
this sometimes makes the computer's performance slow becasue the software has to check for viruses or make sure it's not a security threat...

now spybot, is a program that scans every thing in memory and hard drive for spyware... it has a tendency to slow the performance as well... since it has to check all the files and process running for spyware..

with all that said...
the term "kill" means that both progrmas checks and scans all files and memory... so if spy bot iscanning a file, mcafee is scanning what spybot is doing thus making the system 2x as slow or more... thus making the system freeze up since it's like two roommates hosting a 20 person party each in an apartment that holds only 2 people... you pretty much get where this is going...

sometimes to scan for spyware, I usually pull out the internet cable or shut off my wireless on the computer and then shut the security suite off and just scan for spyware,..
when i'm done i turn on my suite back on and go from there..

if i feel i'm infected, i scan in safe mode....

You should be able to run Spybot without any problems. I'm not familiar with McAfee so I can't say for sure, but it should work.

I personally have a couple different Anti-Spyware programs along with my Anti-Virus program and have never run into conflicts between the them.

NO you can not run "spybot search and destroy" with mcafee. It is listed on mcafees website as "incompatible programs"

If you think you are having issues after you "run spybot". Go to mcafees site: http://mvt.mcafee.com/mvt/index.asp
It will scan your installation and try and tell you what the issues are with your installation (if any).

good luck!
