That's a strange snail, probably a fan of the Croatian Soccer team, having a good time!

It's definitely on the subconscious, and made up of fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter, which is the definition of surreal. The image of a half snail-half human (?) reclining in a checkered shell is definitely a fantastic imagery and the buttons, bottles, pipe and dice have nothing to do with one another so it's a juxtaposition of subject matter. Are we to look at the snail, his pipe or the blue bottle? Does it have its arms crossed or is that a tongue protruding over one arm? Why does it have three antenna on one side of its head and none on the other? Is it relaxing or crawling? What looks like a nose is the same shape as the neck of the blue bottle. Is that an eye or a mushroom? I would say it was not meant to be an accurate presentation but it's surreal.

surrealism is referred to as dreamlike because, just like dreams, the surreal image is one composed of real things and recognizable elements put in a new, distorted context. All surreal art is the artist's interpretation of anxiety; i.e. the sudden realization that you're not wearing pants dream that all have had one time or another.
