Hey...don't get me wrong...I love Harry Potter...maybe I should have included that...I was just shocked that I heard some people thought it was satanic and didn't let their kids have anything to do with it.

I would venture to say that the majority of people who object to these books haven't read them. They're just believing what some preacher is telling them about them.

Harry Potter is FANTASY! Damn good fantasy! It has nothing to do with Satanism, the Occult, Paganism, Neopaganism, or Wicca. It's just fantasy. I find it funny that the same Christian parents who object to Harry Potter and Dungeons & Dragons, are perfectly fine with the Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings -- it's arbitrary and silly. Lighten up and enjoy it for what it is -- a darn good book. And look at it this way -- it's getting children to read!

Anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the movies know that their is no religion mentioned in the series. The closet they get is celebrating Christmas and Easter with family and exchanging gifts, (does that sound Satanic to you?).

Magic in the Harry Potter world is an ability, not the result if selling one's soul to the Devil for power (well maybe in Voldemort's case) children are born magical (or not), J.K. Rowling simply seems to be saying if you are born with a gift, you have the choice to use it for good or bad, and chooses Harry as a role model to demonstrate the hope we have for all of our youth, to resist evils, overcome obstacles, and do what is right, even if it breaks rules and causes people to look down on you.

After all is said and down, its a work of fiction. All parents should explain to their children the difference between fiction and fact anyway.

Preventing children to see Harry Potter stories doesn't mean that you would prevent them from other satanic stuff that is present in this world. Might as well let them see the movie or read the book and then ask them what they think about it and explain what you think it really means.

For those of you who said that you would not let anyone you love watch harry potter or read the books I have a question for you. Have you watched/read/listened to any of the following:

Bewiched
Sabrina
X-men
Spiderman
any music non-christian
Lord of the rings
Scary movies
Steven King
Charmed
OK!
People
Star
Waterworld
Underworld
Van Helsing
Friday 13th
ect...............?

If you said yes to any of the above, you violated your own beliefs. You better start watching only TBN and never read another newspaper, or book, or listen to anyother radio station other than Christian. This world is now driven by "evil" as most TRUE christians would say. By the way, get off the net too. Satan runs the net.

I have friends that will not let their kids watch Harry Potter movies, I think that people who do this are just narrow minded. Kids should have a well rounded education to enable them to make up their own mind about things, to only allow them to learn things within a certain religion is no more than indoctrination and a way of controlling them. Perhaps people who see everything in such a biased way should take more time to examine their own motives.

I am a Celtic Pagan not a Christian.I just don't get this 'Harry Potter is evil' thing though.

They are children's books and fictional!

So all fundamentalist Christians out there-relax and stop taking them seriously! The spells in the books don't work and reading the books won't make your child worship Satan.

I'm a Christian, but believe that it's alright to watch Harry Potter/ fantasy movies or books. Although i understand to an extent of those who disapprove of them, i think it's alright. Others may think that it is "witchcraft" and teaching it to our youth, but I on the other hand feel that it's an expression of the creative side of our mind. We know that this stuff cannot exist, so just imagining it is "fun" so to speak. It takes us somewhere that we physically could never go. Jesus disapproved of blasphemy and immoral actions, not fictitious "fairy tales" that let us escape the real world for a little bit.

So should we banish the King Arthur myths too? Merlin was a wizard.

I think it's absurd. It's fantasy, it's a story. There's worse out there for your children than a fantastic imagination and some good morals.

People need to grow up and stop being pansies who hide behind their religion and cry when someone else has an opinion.

I think it's ridiculous, but I have a friend who wouldn't let his kids see the Harry Potter movies. Of course, he let them play hard-core killing video games, and let them watch violent movies, but no Harry Potter. Doesn't really make sense to me.

It's just entertainment, thats all. Nothing to do with satan. What about Mary Poppins, Bewitched and I dream of Jeannie??? All magical stories, nothing satanic. Just pure entertainment and imagination. There are all kinds of fairytales that involved magic that kids have read or watched since I can remember. I grew up on them. And guess what? I still believe in God and those stories didnt have any effect on my faith. I let my children watch them all and we enjoy them together and they still believe In God also.
