We want to stop at various interesting/hilarious places along the way (like "Worlds' Biggest Pencil" or something like that). Any suggestions?

Here's a few things that I enjoyed in that region:

Mt. Saint Helens
Bonneville Dam (they're trying to keep sea lions from eating the fish)
Multnomah Falls
