I would like to hear any other player for the award. if he should get sixteen wins, which he will being on the Red Sox and a roughly three ERA, is there anybody else that has a chance? if there is, please tell me who might get it.

He might not have a great ERA now, but he will soon. he has just had one or two rocky outings, which can be expected of a rookie, weather he played in Japan or not. Does anyone remember when they played the Mariners? everybody was so hyped up about Ichiro vs. Dicek. Ichiro went 0 for 5 with three strike outs.

He has a decent shot now that he's settled down. I just pray he lives up to the hype.

Matsuzaka is completely eligible for the AL ROY once he passes 50.0 innings pitched. His prior, professional experience in Japan does not, nor should, disqualify him for ROY eligibility.

Witness past, recent winners:
Suzuki -- 2001 AL ROY
Sasaki -- 2000 AL ROY
Nomo -- 1995 NL ROY
(Matsui finished a very close second for the 2003 AL award.)

Plus, further back, a host of former ***** Leaguers won the various ROY Awards after joining MLB, including the inaugural award in 1947, taken home by some kid named Robinson.

For the sake of the Rookie Of The Year Awards, MLB's eligibility requirements are hermetic. Where you came from, how old you are, and what you did before matters not.

Dice K has the best chance he's getting better through every game. There might be a chance in Ian Kinsler though if he still counts as a rookie because he didn't play much last year.

I don't think he can be Rookie of the Year. I believe MLB has a rule about players from the Japanese professional league not being classified as rookies.

By the way, where did you get your data about a "roughly three ERA"? His ERA is 4.06, which is hardly dominating. But in his last six starts, all team wins (he's 5-0 with one no-decision), he has gotten RIDICULOUS run support. 55 Boston runs in those six games, with the lowest output being in 7-6 wins over New York and 7-1 over Detroit.

Though I certainly think he can help the Red Sox win the pennant.

he's got a chance at it. he'll need to bring the ERA down, and pick up at least 16 wins. (he should hit 18 or 19 though).

not too many other rookies are really doing anything to deserve the award at the moment, hideki okajima has been pretty lights out but i see matsuzaka winning it before he does.

to the other posters who said he is inneligible, not true. although he's played in the pro's in japan he's still considered a major league rookie.

Ummmm Ichiro Suzuki? Hideki Matsui? Did they not win RoY? He's got a good shot. He is still in transition and probably will be for the rest of the year. He will have quality starts and will have his lows here and there but he has a decent chance of winning because there is so much there for him. He just needs to adjust, then his brilliance will be revealed.

Although Dice K is getting all the attention my vote would be for another Boston pitcher by the name of Okijima. Of course coming out of the bullpen it'll never happen but this guy is lights out. A very pleasant surprise for that Boston bullpen

Dice-K will be in the race for sure but don't count out Delmon Young. If he stays on track he should have a good year.
