My comptr is making this sound?

ok my comptr is making this humming sound... its really weird... it hsnt dne this ever. but over the lst 2dys it startd...... anyone knw what it could b....... Its coming frm the monitor.........Is it going to die????

Try turning the monitor off then back on, slap the side of it gently or use the degauss feature, generally it doesnt mean it is going to break jst something they do once in a while.

Also incase your not positive that it is coming from the monitor it most likely would be one of the fans in the computer case

CRT or LCD?

CRTs have lots of magnetic components that can hum. Normally they are glued down to stop this. Maybe they came unstuck? Also they hum at harmonics of the horizontal scan frequency. If you have changed the resolution or refresh rate it will have changed the humming. Maybe the harmonic frequencies were not audible before, but they are now.

LCDs do not have as many magnetic components, but the transformers on the inverter card (they up the voltage for the backlight) are known to hum sometimes.


Quiet humming usually is not a problem. Louder humming can be. If you hear something like frying bacon, turn it off and get it replaced - something is arcing inside the monitor which is bad and going to get worse.

if its coming from the monitor i assume you have a ugg monitor, so do i, ugg as in big and bulgy, but just like the other dude said slap it and unplug it, it should reset it and stop the humming cus its probly the electricity going through the color tube making it go bzzzz or hmmmmm
