There are alot of broadcasters/analysts (that know a thing or two about the NFL) jumping on their bandwagon... alot of them seem excited to see how they will do this year... some of them think the Niners will do well and, possibly take the division! THEN, you have silly boys with silly toys that don't know anything (haters)... they will tell you/hope the Niners are going to suck!
IMHO, this is what I predict...
49ers 11-5
Seahawks 11-5
Cardinals 8-8/9-7
Rams 8-8
49ers will end up winning the division over Hawks due to a sweep of one or two teams within the division. I envision they'll win at least 6 of their home games and, possibly all 8. They will be capable enough to squeeze at least 3-4 of their road games.
Ever since Nolan's arrival the team has been progressing fast...
1st year - takes them from a sorry 2-14 team to 4-12.
2nd year - the team is worse off than the year prior, talent wise (released Julian Peterson, Jamie Winborn, no T.O., Tim Rattay, etc), however, Nolan gets his team fired up and they go 7-9!!! They were close in some games and that record wasn't what it was supposed to be. 49ers ROBBED themselves from a division title... that's okay, they were a young team (altogether).
This is Nolans 3rd year!!!
Holmgren is wetting his pants (he knows what's coming)... Ken Wisenhunt (Cardinals coach) looks like Woody Harelson and will need more than a year to fix that team... Linehan (Rams) is alright, but his team won't do all that great in defense and that offense isn't the greatest show on turf anymore.
Alex has proven that he is not a bust. He played behind an injured/average offensive line and still put up nearly 3000 yards. Also, he took every single snap in the entire season... no other 49ers QB has ever done that... not Joe, not Young not anyone! Alex is going to be GOOD. Not to mention, his receiving core last year was no better than average and, on some days they stunk! The only reason why opposing defenses stacked the box was because they new the 49ers offense pretty much sucked (besides GORE). This year will be a whole lot different... defenses will be confused!
NOW, It's Nolan's/Smiths 3rd season. Vernon Davis, Manny Lawson and the other newbies have a year or so under their belts. The O-line is revamped. They have added a couple of coordinators with great resumes on board. That defense is going to be nothing nice this year and many to come. Now, Alex has receivers to throw to... other teams can't stack the box, they'll be spread out and that will give Alex more time to find his receivers... Gore will get his yards and, possibly, top last years performance (barring no injuries).
Without key injuries to key players, your 49ers should do well this year. Nothing is impossible in the NFL... the Patriots came out of nowhere and beat a great St. Louis Rams team in a superbowl not too long ago... the Colts came back from a 21 point deficit and defeated a very good Patriots team and won the superbowl this year... I believe Bill Walsh took the Niners to their first superbowl in his 3rd season with the Niners and won it (they don't lose superbowls, btw).
This season is going to be the start of 'DAYS OF OLD'... they're on their way to take back the division and work their way to the big game... it might not happen this year, but anything can happen!

Niners will do well. My guessis 9-7 or 10-6. they have a ne w Offenisve Coordinator and Defensive Coordinator. But the defense is being run by San diego's old Linebacker coach. I think he will have Manny Lawson Patrick willis Brandon Moore andTully Banta Cain playing well and in the 3-4 defense the pass rush comes from the linebackers not the Defensive line.
I do think Alex smith and he offense will break out this season and Gore will run well over 1500 yards.Vernon Davis will emerge to be a TightEnd of Antonio Gates caliber.

9-7, but good enough to clinch the divison. Smith is surrounded by weapons (Davis, Battle, Jackson) and has Gore in the backfield. The defense will get much better, but I am worried about their pass rush. 9-7 is good enough to clinch a divison the NFC and everyone is 0-0 in the playoffs

7-9. It's all about the Seahawks baby. Seahawks are healthy now and they are 3 years in a row - division champs. Alex Smith is a bust. Gore will have the sophomore slump season. Go Seahawks!!!! back to the super bowl baby!!!

An honest appraisal is about 6-10
Suspect defense (especially at the db positions in a division with two playoff type offenses) and average offense nets them third in their division.
