Does this show how desperate and without a cause/platform they are?

Because he is so unpopular that by associating somebody with him, makes that somebody unpopular. Associating all Republicans with Bush and disassociating yourself with Bush are both essential to winning the general election and particularly the primaries. Very few Democrats want to vote for a candidate that supports Bush, so the Democratic candidates can't support Bush either if they want to win any primaries. I really don't think this is done out of desperation, but I do think that a lot of the candidates for president are only saying this because it's what the people want to hear and not what the candidate actually believes. Many of the candidates are just doing it for political gain, so I would say that some democrats are doing it out of desperation. I would also bet that if there were a Democratic president that was this unpopular that Republicans would be trying to disassociate themselves and associate all other Democrats with this person.

The Democrats are basing their campaigns on a lame duck President for the primary reason that the President, being the highest ranking Republican, is considered to be the leader of his party, and the Democrats are saying that if this is all that the Republicans are capable of, then you have to know that we Democrats can do much better than that.

The Democrats will try to convince people that if they are silly enough to vote another Republican into office, they will see more of the same awful stuff that this country has had to put up with for the past eight years.

I know what you mean, it's the " I'm better than who's President now" campaign. I think they will catch on in 6 months or so, when they actually start thinking of original ideas, and develop a campaign with some true merit, I'm not very impressed with any of the candidates at this point.

They are basing their campaigns on cleaning up the mess of this lame duck President. Big difference, the details matter. Have you missed the Republican candidates who also talk about what their stand on the war is and what they are going to do about it? It's the hot topic, you should check it out sometime. The Republicans were so afraid to say the name of Bush in the first debate they fell all over themselves glomming on the Reagan name. They know they have to distance themselves from Bush to win, well except McCain, he doesn't quite get that yet. But their refusal to talk about Bush is just as loud as the Democrats who don't mind talking about him at all.

While President Bush certainly is a tempting and deserving target, the fact of the matter is that the Dems don't have anything new to offer. We need a third party to remove these imbeciles from Washington!

The vast majority of Americans has concluded that Bush has been taking the country in a completely wrong direction.

It's smart to want to try to make things right again, reverse the direction toward destroying our country.

Most Americans have disagreed with everything Bush has done and tried to do.

Most Americans support Roe V. Wade,
want the environment protected,
support medical research,
oppose dismantling Social Security,
oppose torture,
oppose continuing the bogus "course" in Iraq,
oppose an empirial presidency,
oppose the rich not paying taxes,
support the government helping the citizens of the country (rather than letting them die),
support taking care of soldiers, paying them, equiping them, allowing them rest, providing health care for them,

to name just a very few of the issues on which Bush is in the minority.

It makes sense to say to Americans that we want to try to undo some of the damage, and turn the country back from the cliff Bush has been trying to drive us over.

No this shows how much anger they have to this president... and this also reflects the American people.

Haven't you seen the approval polls of Bush for the last two years????????? A LOT of people (not just Democrats, unless 70% of the nation is Democratic which I doubt) want accountability for this fiasco.

They NEVER have any original ideas or plans.
They only complain.
They only want to destroy American freedom with specious arguments and move America toward a one-world socialist state.
To do that, They must destroy the America we have now because the elitists that rule the rest of the world will not join the U.S. by granting freedom to their minions.

Because, genius -

Whoever wins the election has to clean up after the jerk that now holds the office!!!! And they are using him as an example of what the Republican party gave us.

I swear, sometimes people are so bitter, they allow it to shorten their sight. Or are you just naturally that short sighted?

For the same reasons the Republicans are doing it; because he is a lame duck and because it's quick and easy.
