i think if they allowed steroids they should make the home run line bigger, like a mile from the plate and then and only then would it be fair because if you can hit the ball a mile then you deserve the home run if you cant hit the ball a mile then you cant have the steroids fair or not fair?

Several years ago when testing was poor and consequences were almost nothing I would have told you that I would take it and not think twice about, especially if I were a MLB player; those players have a mentality that is different than that of the average person, the competitive nature in me would take over and I would do anything to prolong my ability to make money for my families future. An athlete making that much money is not looking at shortening his life as a consequence. Now in today's world with better testing and real consequences I would not take anything and I would put up with the fact that my skills are not what I thought they were going to be, I would pack my bags and look to see if I could revive my career else where. There is always a team ready to throw money at a castaway from other teams....that is why Kansas City still has a team!

i kno but u just cant cheat the league like that, hitting homeruns every other day!!
thats why everybody is passing the old ballplayers on the alltime HR list because of the 'roids, thats not fair to hank aaron he didnt take steroids and he still way up in the standings at #1 and babe "the king of kings" ruth, well steroids wernt even around back in his playing days......he still killed the ball!!!
i think the 'roids are killing the game, i think that the players that do it should be puninsihed by the major leagues, weather that be a susepinson or just a fine or maybe even pulling them away from their milestone chases like for an example barry bonds!!!
so its wrong for players to do it, no matter who u are a pitcher, a regular day player or just a benchwarmer its wrong to do it...
plus it hurts the body!!!

It's illegal. It sends a terrible message to a 13 year old with aspirations of being a better athlete. Athletes that abuse it generally die young, or suffer debilitating illnesses. Athletes can quickly recover from otherwise performance enhancing injuries to play into their late 40's. It's cheating. Breaking records because of drug use instead of natural talent. Makes America's pastime look cheap and embarrassing. Draws the ire of congress and independent commissions to investigate it's use in the sport. Gets guys like Jason Giambi gigantic contracts with otherwise medium talent while other more talented players aren't as coveted. Makes lifelong fans like myself feel like the game is being cheapened and losing momentum against Football, Nascar, and even Golf. But what's the big deal, right?

Steroids have been vilified to the point that whenever mentioned, people think negative no matter the circumstance. Steroids help in the healing process and in my own life have help my asthmatic child live a better life. When used responsibly steroids are good. It should be the human growth hormones that players are taking that are criticized.

because if david ortiz hits thirty homeruns without steriods and barry bonds hits forty five with them it ruins stats and legitimacy in the game. it gives an advantage. It's cheating. OOOOHHHH and steriods are not allowed in the US. they are illegal. Yeah home runs and hard hits are fun to watch, but would they be fun if a robot was hitting them? not so much. well steriods makes it not the talent of the hitter anymore but of the power of the drug - therefore it cheapens the fun of watching a homerun knowing that it wasnt done legitimately.
besides going out to a movie is fun, but if you do it all the time it will get boring. same thing with homeruns. if we see them too much it will take away from the spectacular nature of seeing one. what makes them so fun to see is that they dont happen ten times an inning.
As for the guy who mentioned steriods helped his asmathic son... steriods is a broad term. there are hundred of types of steriods. the ones your son needs are not the same kinds athletes are using.

It gives the steroid users an unfair advantage. If all the players used them and it was legal, no problem. I'd love to watch the beasts play and establish miraculous records.

Because it's unfair enhancement. First of all it's not good for them. People can die from using too much anabolic steroids, it's a bad role model for young children and aspiring athletes. And it's simply unfair to those players that play and dominate by skill, and not doping. Baseball is a game, and using steroids is cheating. It's like advancing to go when you felt like it when playing monopoly.
As a reply to doboll's post: I use steroids myself, but the steroids a doctor perscribes to you for your and your son's illnesses (and mine as well) is different then anabolic steroids that athletes use.
The steroids that you are thinking of are "synthetic corticosteroid drug which is usually taken orally but can be delivered by intramuscular injection and can be used for a large number of different conditions. It has a mainly glucocorticoid effect. Prednisone is a prodrug that is converted by the liver into prednisolone, which is the active drug and also a steroid." "Anabolic-androgenic steroids are man-made substances related to male sex hormones. 'Anabolic' refers to muscle-building, and 'androgenic' refers to increased masculine characteristics. 'Steroids' refers to the class of drugs."

People take sports way too seriously. Take the gambling out, and that would be a step. Or have a league for drug-free players and a league for those who will do anything to win. You could compare the leagues, too -- like NBA and WNBA -- see if people like the game or if they like to see the BEST players.

There are legitimate uses for anabolic steroids. But using then in any other manner is illegal.
You're asking why it matter if ballplayers break the law.
