My computer is acting up badly. I want my computer to run smoother and faster. Its needs more disk space and I need more memory, but at the moment i have no money to buy new hardware. So I went to walmart the other day and I saw some programs that say they can protect against viruses and clean up my system so it can run better. So my question is, what are some good programs to buy to try and fix my computer up a little bit for a do it yourself, computer illiterate person like me?

Dont buy those programs, we'll help you. First you need to go to start, run, type in msconfig then choose the sart up tab. Google all the checked off items, you'll find which ones to leave checked and which ones to uncheck. then hit apply, close and reboot. Then check the box that says dont show me again. Uninstall all red flags like AOell, limewire, bearshare, weatherbug, webshots, any free screensavers or smiles. Use only one toolbar in IE. If you already have a reputable antivirus, use it. ONLY use 1 antivirus. If you dont have one use EITHER kapersky, avast or avg. You can use more than 1 (but not too many) antispyware. Use adaware or spybot. For a firewall if you have vista use zone alarm if xp use comodo. Right click my computer, properties, advanced performance. uncheck anything that say fade animate or slide. Do a defrag Start/all programs. accessories. system tools/defrag. J Lee has good advice too. Just CLEAN IT AND START FROM SCRATCH

well ask a friend (whos better than you in computers) to format your computer for you
but before you do that make sure that all your personal data and files that you dont wanna lose are backed up somewhere else because formatting will erase all data on your computer
after you format your computer will be running at its best and you should try and get a nice antivirus program. i would recommend Kaspersky antivirus

Hi. There are many free programs for anti-malware, but if I had to buy just one program, it would be "Registry Mechanic".
