The 1915 Philadelphia Athletics (43-109) finished 58.5 games behind the Red Sox (101-50).

The 1962 New York Mets (40-120) finished 60.5 games behind the San Francisco Giants (103-62). The Giants and Dodgers played a 2-of-3 playoff that year, giving the Mets additional chances to fall behind farther.

The 1935 Boston Braves (38-115) finished 61.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs (!!!; 100-54).

The 1906 Cubs (116-36) were so good that two teams finished in the minus-60 club: St. Louis Cardinals (52-98) at -63, and Boston Beaneaters (49-102) at -66.5.

But, as always, we turn to the 1899 Cleveland Spiders (20-134), who finished a whopping 84 games behind the Brooklyn Superbas (now Dodgers; 101-47).

The 1962 Mets finished 60 1/2 games out of first, the worst standing since before 1920.

To the guy who said that the 1954 Pirates finished 129 games out - get a clue. While the Pirates were indeed poor at 53-101, they, nor any team in history hasn't been close to finishing that far back. With a 154-games schedule back then, even an all-time worst record of 20-134 would require the first-place team to finish at 149-5. Impossible.

Like they say, it is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
