not really but it will increase your lungs strength and endurance.

The average pair of human lungs can hold about 6 liters of air, but only a small amount of this capacity is used during normal breathing. Lung volumes refer to physical differences in volume, while lung capacities represent different combinations of lung volumes, usually in relation to respiration and exhalation.

A person who is born and lives at sea level will have a smaller lung capacity than a person who spends their life at a high altitude. This is because the atmosphere is less dense at higher altitude, and therefore, the same volume of air contains fewer molecules of all gases, including oxygen. In response to higher altitude, the lungs gradually grow larger in order to be able to process more air.

So, your lung volume doesn't increase unless you exercise at high altitude, and I think someone above me already said this.

However, it has been shows that smokers who quit smoking and begin jogging (~10:00 mile) have regained some of the lost volume in their lungs.

Exercise them. Sit up straight. Breathe in slowly thru your nose deep, deep, deep until you're sure they are full. Hold for a few seconds. Exhale slowly thru pursed lips. Continue doing this exercise a few times a day over several days & you'll find you'll be able to breath deeper and deeper. This is a great way to relax too. Of course, if you get light headed or dizzy, STOP. We all tend to take much shallower and shorter breaths than we should which really robs our body, blood & brain of the oxygen it needs for energy & clarity. Running too will cause you do breathe deeper and will in itself make your lungs stronger. Be sure you are eating healthy meals and drinking water to build up a strong body that will also improve your endurance. Would probably be best get your doctor's ok first before increasing your level of exercise.

No.The only way to expand your lung capacity is to do a exercise we call 30 60's. Find a open area, then place four cones or some sort of marker aproximitly 200ft. by 200ft. by 200ft. by 200ft. Then all you need is a stop watch and the will to get what you want. Start off by stretching, then start the stop watch as you start running as fast as you can, remember to keep up your pace! When the stop watch hits 30 sec. you start a quick walk. Then you rotate it, Start the stop watch and begin running for a minute or 60 sec.,when it hits a minute you begin to walk for a minute, but remember a quick walk to ensure your keeping your heart rate up.This has helped me with my 2 mile run tremindusly! Im now running a 13:20 2 mile run! Stay hydrated with water! Not to much before you run,but after is fine. PEACE PEEPS!

As long as you push yourself somewhat...I recommend sprinting the last 50-100 yards. It only takes 6-14 seconds but it will increase your lung capacity much quicker.
