when I was online earlier, my computer shut down by itself. There was 2 sparks and smelled like something burning. I disconnected everything and took it outside. It wasn't actually on fire, just smells like something burned out. Can anyone think what would of caused this? And can it be fixed? Could it be the power supply? Thanks

Things like this might happen many times. Especially with a 3 years computer.
Against volt rise or volt fluctuation, you can protect your comp with special plugs and UPS.
But after a while if your power supply gets too old, there is nothing to do, it will burn your computer.
I think, the only way to protect is to buy a new power supply every year.

I've seen this problem time and time again. You have a dead power supply. Just get a new one or take it to your local repair shop to get it fixed. If it's still under warrenty they should fix it for no charge. The only problem is that it may have run in and shorted out your motherboard. There's a slim chance that happened but still likely.
This could have been caused by a power surge, power drop, or just going bad.

Honestly I dont think it would be safe to even try to fix it or cost effecent for that matter I'd just invest in a new tower at least pull your HDD and optical drives and RAM and keep it and get a new PC There are so many things that could have gone wrong thats why i say buy a new one it would be safeist bet. Good luck.

Robin, you need to call your Doctor and ask him to diagnose you on the phone.
We can not tell what is wrong with your computer without looking at it. Yes, it could be a power supply. It could also be a fan, a motherboard, or anything else electrical, which is everything.

If you have any kind of money smarts DO NOT CALL GEEK SQUAD! they run around 99 dollars an hour for god sakes.
Take it in to a repair facility...it sounds like a power supply but you should get it looked at just in case.

The "68000" is an 8Mhz Motorola processor from the 80s, used in the 1st actual Macs (Apple Macintosh), that have been small issues with small B&W monitors, additionally utilized in lots of different 80s computers which incorporate Amiga and Atari ST. the style you purchased certainly one of those 80s Macs to browse the internet is previous me (yet no longer impossible). Downloading something, virus or no longer, won't reason a working laptop or laptop hearth. My wager is that your "Mac 68000" caught hearth as a results of fact it is totally previous and something blew up. certainly i don't be attentive to of any virus ever to contaminate an previous 80s Macintosh, and how could you get one! unhappy waste of something retro. Sorry to take heed to that.

Was it a laptop? If so, it's probably the battery. A bunch of them were recalled recently.
