Same thing has happenned to me after several installs of SP2.
I have researched many issues, but none seem to match my problems. Microsoft is hounding me with pop ups to install SP2, but each time I do, all of a sudden XP doesn't recognize my rom drives and the drives themselves won't operate. So I uninstall it, things go back the way they were, and then the pop ups begin again. Iv'e sucsessfully installed it on two other computers, so I know I am not a dummy, or at least I didn't use to think so......

What are the brands of your roms? U have the driver CDs for them right? Copy those driver CDs onto ur hard drive while still in XP. Remove the roms, then install XP SP2. Next plug in the roms. Fire up ur machine n check whether the drives get detected. If not right click on My computer>Click Properties>Hardware>Device Manager...Check whether there are any exclamation marks on ur roms. If u c ur roms there then they should work. If not click "Scan for new devices". It should detect ur roms. If it asks for drivers u can browse into those driver CD folders you copied earlier.
Hope this helps.

That sounds like a pretty weird problem to me. I doubt if it has anything to do with SP2 itself. Did you check to see whether your system is up to par on the system requirements for SP2. I am running XP with 512 mgs of RAM (not great, but adequate) along with Pentium Processor 4 of 2.60 ghz and have had no problems. Look on the troubleshooting issues at the SP2 website. You might find something there that is helpful.

SP2 does'nt cause trouble not if your RAM is 256, when the installation of SP2 is done, update your cd and dvd rom drive.

Go to the manufactures website (dell.com or other) and download the latest drivers. The newer drivers work with SP2.

Microsoft wants you to think you are stupid for not getting Vista..that is, until after you buy it, and then they will tell you that your stuff isnt compatable with Vista.
The solution: Dump Microsoft and get a good free open source at www.kubuntu.org feisty fawn.
