Maybe he is thinking that you wanted to be intimate with him, but you were holding yourself back because of your ideas of no sex. Maybe he meant when he said to be yourself, he meant to just relax and experience the joys of being intimate can bring. If I were you though, I would give him the big heave ho if he gets angry when you dont want to have sex with him. If you felt natural about it, then Im sure you would have probably felt at ease with him and maybe you would have wanted to be intimate with him. If you felt uneasy about the situation, then you have every right to not have sex. When you find the right man and you feel the time is right, then you will decide when you are ready. No man should decide that time for you, so if he gets angry, then thats his problem. He is certainly insenstive to your needs. If he doesnt understand, then you dont have to do anything you dont want to do in order to please him. Having sex with someone is a very special thing and should not be taken lightly. This is your gift to the man you love, not a comodity to be given out to whoever wants it. Let him get as angry as he likes, that is not your problem. You are entitled to decide who you want to give your precious gift to.

It means they thought you were pretending to "be someone" you are not.
Maybe you were trying too hard to act like someone with a different personality to yours. This acting probably looked and sounded false - therefore it was annoying.
Sometimes people lie and try to behave like they have money, style or mojo to fit in with a group or to attract the interest of a particular person.. For example, imagine trying to be a goth when really you are only slightly interested because you wanted to fit in. Very soon the real goths will shut you out because you are just pretending.
If you were having sex with this person s/he would have still have dumped you, but perhaps not until a new sex partner was found. In other words, they may have tolerated you only because of the availability of sex.
Just be who you are comfortable being... yourself.
This is easy to say but sometimes hard to do if your social life revolves around that group and you don't want to be left out entirely.
If you want to behave out of character or fit in with a group be aware you will always feel uncomfortable and the group will never fully accept you. This is hurtful but at least if you accept this is going to happen you can learn to deal with it.
Its not just you... this happens to everyone at some time or another.

Maybe they sensed that you were tensing up and sensed that you felt uncomfortable. By telling you to be yourself means to loosen up, don't be so tense, relax and Enjoy the moment in other words!!

i don't think they're mad - i just think they want to help you out by telling you that if you are yourself then someone will come along who loves you for you and then you can have sex with someone you love
