I don't thumb down people unless they make a racial remark. Personally if it were up to me, I would eliminate the thumbs up and down, as well as the stars. It seems all three cause alot of controversy and are not worth it.

I have gotten my share..or should I say beyond my share! LOL!
I see nothing wrong with thumbing down a really poor answer..such as a hateful one..a answer that has nothing to do with the Q. But I never thumb down a opinion..I do not have to agree with it..but I will respect others opinions..not to mention..I learn from others opinions.
To thumb down someone because you may for some unknown reason not like them..is so childish..I would not ever do that.Sometimes I must say I wonder why are there people who do not like complete strangers. Let us give each other a chance..we may find we have more in common then we knew.
I no longer will let thumbs down bother me..I think I will take them as a compliment...LOL...Seems I might as well...the persons thumbing me down..or even being rude..etc. are actually finding me important enough to waste their time on!
And also maybe they are leaving someone else alone. I would say your statement is quite accurate..they really may need to get a life.
Ciao!

Maybe that is the extent of their tiny life, Harvey. I use the TD on occasion when the answer is bad data, but never for a difference of opinion. Have run into questions for which I do not have an informed answer and these answers get a thumbs up and often the asker will get a star.

I noticed that certain topics tend to set some people off on a thumbs down campaign. I try not to take it personally. They are the one with the narrow minds and tight yahoos.

thumbs down has a viable purpose, but the intended purpose was NOT that someone chooses to take a disliking to a person and uses the priviledge at their free will out of a malicious sense of vindication. however, the intent and availabilty should prevail and to Hades with the haters, friend!

It's Ok in moderation, but to just go around giving thumbs down to everything is kind of pointless!

It's stupid if they give you thumbs down just because your opinions differ. By the way, how can you get thumbs down on a coke & pepsi question? lol

Well, if they give my answers a thumb down, they kinda have a point there.
