Mix it up. Play upbeat music, but vary the genres between songs. Go Justin Timberlake, to MIMS, to Daddy Yankee, and so on. Just play upbeat hits that everyone will like.

Depends on the crowd mostly. If it's a mixed crowd of all ages, play a little bit of everything. Not just what you yourself likes, but everybody. TAKE REQUESTS!!!!! By the way, you can get several different CDs at your local library, they have almost everything you will want there, plus it's free. If you can't get enough with your library card, have the party host, or your friends also get some. I was always the type who would never be caught in a library. But in the last 3-4 years, I am the number one supporter of them. And I'm also on a first name basis with all the employees at my branch. I have never requested a CD or a video that they could not deliver.

I think you should mix, starting with some Reggeaton and then Hip-Hop etc. mix them and ofcourse they are gonna dance who wouldn't? It's hot to dance in a pool party.

Always mix it up. If someone doesnt like the genre you are playing and you play them back to back, they will get bored with you and the party. You always mix the music.

if there are a lot of girls there play Girlfriend by Avril and I don't need a man by The Pussycat Dolls and things like that and Tracy Adkins song Honky Tonk whatever you call it.... Play anything that has a fast beat so if people chose to dance with someone they can and it's a party not a wedding so don't play slow songs

i suppose we can tell the crowd you're catering to.
so i suppose electro-industrial, powernoise, IDM, EBM, breakbeat, and experimental noise are out of the question? or even trance, jungle, drum'n'bass?
you could seriously always just go with basic house/club/freestyle stuff. the stuff you hear on mainstream club stations.
