The customer has the money that you want, so in a way yes the customer could be looked at as king. But um no, just think of that old saying the Customer is always Right. That for the most part is true. what are you selling anyway?

Not always. Where I work the customers take advantage of the whole "customer is always right" mentality and the management lets them. Even if the person is wrong if they begin screaming and make a scene the manager will more than likely let them get away with what they are complaining about. But I treat all the customers with respect and try to be as polite as possible. You don't a rude store employee to ruin your day. :)

No. There are far, far to many consumers. Using the same metaphor, the customer is more like CONGRESSMAN, at best, possibly LOBBYIST, or COURTIER.

This is especially true if the customer has to have an ongoing relationship with the business. In most of those cases, needing customer service, as a customer is not a desirable situation.

YUP thats pretty much what we got told today in training at the restaurant that Im going to be working at. The manager said whatever the customer wants get it for them. Whatever makes them happy will make them keep coming back. Even if they want a pizza we have to get it for them luckly the pizza place is in walking distance. I hope no one wants a pizza we are prime steak, burger, chicken place.

I have worked in retail for sometime and I am told that the customer is always right. Not that I always agree.

the customer should be treated with respect, because without customers, you would have no job.
but they have to be respectful to the sales staff as well - they should not be allowed to get away with whatever they feel like just because 'the customer is always right, blah blah blah'

no customers think that they are always right but they are wrong 80% of the time and they get angry when they dont understand the rules that have been put in place
