"Purpose" denotes a "context," and a "design," and neither apply to everyone or every living thing in the same way. The purpose of a hammer is to hit things, especially nails. We invented the hammer for that purpose, in the context of construction and de-struction...
Life can only have a purpose when you are self-created and YOU get to choose your context. The manifestation of the will is the only thing that can determine your "purpose," but there is not an "intristic" meaning to life, unless you believe in God...
Then the meaning of life is simple and externally mandated, kiss God's divine butt, breed, and try to get as many other people to kiss his butt as possible by threatening them with eternal suffering. Simple, simplistic, and apparently (somehow,) very effective.
Life itself does not have a purpose, it survives by competition, by using as much of the available resources as possible to beat out other organisms and succeed in passing its genes on to the next generation. There are some people who believe THIS IS the "purpose of life, but I pity them, there is no freedom or laudable ideal in that, and by that standard, we are far behind the microorganisms and insects, and can never be more successful than they have already shown themselves to be...Even if we killed them all, their legacy is more impressive than our species could ever achieve in the lifetime of the universe...

because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

In my personal opinion, life's purpose is to do what God intended. Also, to discover who you really are and why you were put on the Earth.

to try. to succed, to fail, to love to hate. to try and experience all that u can in the short time that we exist. to hopefully make at least one persons life a little better. i really can't answer an any other way than that. the meaning is just to experience the entire range of human emotions.
