I felt the same way you did at first. I didn't like the idea of a male doctor touching me. Then for my last visit I had to find a new Doctor and I made an appointment with the office and then realized there were no females! I was scared at first but you know what.. it wasn't that bad. He was a lot more helpful and seemed to care as opposed to the female one I used to see. He was also an OB-GYN and had tons of pictures of babies he delivered on his wall. So that was very comforting. (I was just going for a regular check up.) All and all they are not bad at all. :)

I will not see a male gynecologist unless I were in an emergency situation (fortunately, I have not had any medical emergencies requiring a gynecologist). I agree with you that the thought of a strange man touching my body so intimately is very off-putting. Also, I have tended to get better medical care from women (the best healthcare providers I've had have actually been nurse practitioners!).

I have used both a male and female gynecologist. I prefer the male doctor because he is more considerate of my feelings and makes sure everything is by the book. I found that the female gyno was more abrupt and didn't take my questions seriously, almost like she was thinking "I am a woman too, deal with it" or "its no big deal".
It all depends on your comfort level, but remember: it is your right to have a female nurse present if it makes you more comfortable.
Good luck!

I'd rather a male because females might get a little too curious. And before someone says something, yes I have had a pelvic exam by a very butch lesbian, and it made me so uncomfortable the whole time she was down there, but a man, I have no problem with.

I've had both but I prefer female. Female doctors seem to be more sympathetic to your problems since they can relate as a woman. Men may know what they are talking about but they don't live it everyday...they seem to "wipe their hands of you" and could care less.

nicely, as a count of fact, my gyno is a guy. he's thoroughly non-threatening to me, and the concern i admire approximately him is that he "shoots it to be straght." there's no fluff, no "aww, i'm so sorry, i think your soreness", which for me, is physically powerful. I desire that as quickly as i'm dealing with issues, concerns, or pretty being pregnant, i do no longer desire any fluff. I purely desire info, information, and advice. yet, it is purely me. i could desire to sound strange, yet i'm a scientist, and my suggestions applications greater suitable as quickly as I actually have a plan and be attentive to what to anticipate, ya be attentive to? LOL i can absolutely comprehend why having a guy gyno could freak some human beings out in spite of the undeniable fact that! completely!

You bring up some good reasons not to see a male gyno and I will add to that this; a female has the same parts and fully understands what the heck is going on, a male does not. Nuf said? Besides, ask yourself this, why would a guy become a gyno anyway?
