I think you need to enlighten her to Neil Diamond. Forever in Blue Jeans, Sweet Caroline, America. He is really a wonderful songwriter.
Maybe she just does not appreciate him and his talent as much as you do. I always thought artists were more in tune with the world, more left brain, if you know what I mean. Good luck to you. I am confident everything will work out for you.

Some Diamond is classic. Sounds like she has different tastes anyway.Maybe she's a Heart Fan instead? It wouldn't hurt to expand your so-called talents. Such as what John Mayer has done also. Give her something to control even if only one type of song.At least it isn't B.J.

in the emortal words of Neil Diamond...."don't know that I will but until I can find me, a girl who'll stay and won't play games behind me, I'll be what I am...a Solitary Man..."
Dude, there should be a compramise here. She's great and all but if she can't get behind one of the greatest songwriters in history...well...good luck.
If you truely care for her, check out ALL the great artists that got thier biggest hits singing songs written by him and SHOW her the list.

Communication. You really need to communicate your feelings on this to her. I know it's not an easy thing for a guy, but just say..."Hey, you know, that kinda bothers me when you make fun of the stuff I like. It'd be so boring if we both liked all of the same stuff, can you please respect my feelings on this type of music, and I'll respect what you like. I think your great, and I really want our relationship to work out, but when you say (fill in the blank), it really doesn't make me happy."
If she answers negatively, then she's gotta go. She may only think she's teasing with you, especially if you shrug it off. Let her know nicely, but firmly, if you really want to stay with her. If she keeps at it, then follow with your plan B of breakup.

Dump her.
Anyone who hates Neil Diamond is bad news.
On second thought, make her watch The Jazz Singer. Nobody can hate Neil after that.
(Of course, if she looks like Amanda Peet she's a keeper.)

If you want to dump her for that reason, I say she should dump you and look for someone better then you. So what if she isn't into Neal Diamond, you should be please that she thinks you are good enough to write your own stuff. I am sure there are things she is into that you don't neccessarily want any part of.

Your girlfriend may be saying that as a compliment. If your girlfriends comments bother you just tell her how you feel or just ask her not to come to rehearsals.
