ok look...im not saying that its okay to be outwardly racist and disrespectful to a particular group because of their physical/mental position, but how come people hide thir prejudices? Shouldn't i, if I find it uncomfortable to be around a certain group of people, be able to voice my opinion and/or have the option of dissassociating myself with those I feel uncomfortable around?

I am not a racist! Im just asking a question to the intelligent souls on this site, and Im hoping people don't descriminate against this question!

We are all prejudiced in some way. People don't know how to be honest.

Not to the best of my knowledge. People should be aware of as many of their biases as humanly possible, and actually note it to others, if necessary, so others can know where they're coming from.

The problems come in with the situations where people start leaving out personal perferences and unnecessarily blaming said group for general existance.

"Because of how I grew up and my religious background I'm not really comfortable with homosexuals" shouldn't provoke a negative response really, especially if said person wishes no harm against the group.

"Gah, gays make me sick so I shouldn't have to see any of them" is a bit more worrisome, mainly because the hurtful way it's stated (wording is important sometimes) but it also sends of a sign of the group being wrong to exist objectionally, outside of your opinion.

I understand what you mean, feeling comfortable with certain people and with others, feeling less comfortable. If it has to do with race, maybe you should check that out... personally, it's not about race, if someone is just weird (in a weird way haha, because i am weird, if that person is someone who tries very hard to be cool and to conform then theyre weird to me) then i wont feel comfortable.

im not gonna lie though, i feel comfortable with brasileiras (brazilians) the most. i lived there from 11 to 17 years old (just a few months ago) and i grew up with them. and they are multi-racial and everything.. they just have my ideals of whats fun and stuff.. even my native portuguese people arent like that :( i cant even relate to portuguese people as i dont think like them 100%

It is only natural to find comfort in ones similar to yourself, but if you rip yourself away from a certain group of people you should look into this, Id much rather know someone is racist than to have to try and understand a person is a racist, the implicit actions are what cause discomfort its worse than explicit action if you ask me, its more cowardly, and more ignorant.

If you were able to express your opinion without someone taking exception to it and flying off the handle, it would be great, but some people just can't control themselves. And it's doubtful that you can express your feelings without coming across as high-handed or irritating. The odd thing is that they get angry as though you have no right to disassociate yourself but they don't want to be around you, either. It doesn't make sense sometimes.

The PC fad is still a strong force, silly as it is. People love to call someone else names that they don't want to be called. Set your standards as you see fit. Just be careful who you're speaking too. This PC fad will be with us for a while, sorry to say.
