He may have had prior experiences (unpleasant) with other tenants who have filed bankruptcy. As long as you signed the agreement in the rental contract, you are obligated to conform to the terms of the agreement. If you signed such an agreement and intend to file bankruptcy, he does have the right to terminate your lease prematurely.

Most landlords that I know of have a bankruptcy clause.
You file...you get evicted. This is legal if you sign the lease with it in it.
They usually do this because when you file you have to list all you debts and that includes your rental lease if you signed for a certain period of time....6 months, a year, etc.
With rent being so high these days, many courts do not allow you enough money left over to pay it.
With the new bankruptcy laws all of your income goes to a trustee to distribute to pay living expenses and bills. You are not alllowed very much for living expenses.
Bankruptcy is a bad idea.....especially chapter 13.
Do not do it.
