You can't really use astroturf for snowboarding as the bristles arnt long enough, if you tryed to turn your board it would just slide away from under you. The best surfaces to use as an alternative to snow are either Snowflex or Dendex. Dendex is one of the original surfaces used for dry slopes and is still quite popular its basically brisles on like a honeycomb type grid. Snowflex is a newer surface and is basically like a giant white carpet it is the most popular dryslope surface around today as it is alot softer to fall on than dendex. If you buy either of these its a good idea to keep them wet as they are both abrasive surfaces so if they are dry they will grip your board and slow you down and over time will wear away the base of your board. But if you keep it wet and wax you board you will have no problems with any wear and tear to your board. I think Snowflex is quite a bit more expensive then Dendex, so if i was you i would go for Dendex and save yourself some money. Good Luck

Astroturf or even old carpet can be used for decent snowboarding. Lay out the carpet and then poor a mixture of soap and water over the carpet to make it slide better. You can also see if a local ice skating rink will give you the shavings from when the recondition the ice.

There's a UK based company called SnowFlex that makes an astroturf like surface except the fibers are a bit longer and slipperier. They ussually wet it to keep from heating up to much when your board slides over it.

Unfortunately these types of places are a lot more popular in Japan and the UK. I don't even think there are any places that use it in the US.

Check out there website at www.snowflex.com the stuff is pretty cool.

no way in the world astroturf would work you wouldn't be able to slide well enough on it. i don't know of any ways to snowboard in the summer except for maybe traveling far away. so it looks like your stuck waiting for the winter like the rest of us.

Good luck with not tearing up your board. I would be worried about scratching it up. If you're so into snowboarding, where you would wanna go in the summer, I would think you care about your board too. Careful! Get a snow machine...pricey. But it'll do the trick.

If you put snow on it you can snowboard on just about anything.

You can slide on anything if it's steep enough, although at some stage it becomes a plummet.
