Every other month, Teresa Arciola drives from her home in Westchester County, New York, to Arlington Cemetery in Virginia, sits on her son’s grave and reads aloud from “Corduroy,” his favorite baby book. Another mother spent winter afternoons in a sleeping bag stretched across her son’s final resting place.
The unspeakable suffering of these parents of dead soldiers stands in marked contrast to the current maneuvering over the Iraq War. George W. Bush appears to be quietly doubling U.S. combat troops by Christmas – and many members of Congress seemed frightened of the political repercussions if they stand up to him.

I am in Iraq right now as I type this. I agree that we need to end the war immediately, but we can't just pull everyone out and leave. We should not have gone there in the first place, but now we have to see it through. We owe that much to the soldiers and numerous other Americans who have given their life over here so that they did not die for nothing. More troops is the right answer, we should have started with a lot more. We should have kept up bombing runs a lot longer than we did. It's too late for the we should haves now. Now we need to make things right over there. If they cut off funding for the war, we will still be here doing more with less equipment or each person will do the work of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, etc... men until we get the job done. Yes I voluntarily joined the Military, but nobody thought we would really ever go to war at the time. It has been a good way to earn a pay check and get some badly needed college money. Most of us did not volunteer to go to Iraq and leave our families behind, we do it because we are ordered to. We do it for you. How many terrorist attacks have their been in the US since the war started? Yep zero. That's because we are taking care of business here, a lot more than what is reported on CNN. We have them on the run and they can't hit us when they are running scared. If you haven't been over there then quit crying or pick up a gun and go, either way I will still be here protecting the good ole USA.

First the troops are not being increased quietly since President Bush had a speech to the nation that told America that the troops would be increased & why it was needed.
Congress has put up every roadblock possible to stop the military & their desire for more troops.
2nd- Where in the world did you hear the crazy stories?
As a mother of an Army Officer, if these stories we need to
get them good mental health care. It is extremely unnatural to read a children's book to an adult son much less a dead adult son. Plus laying on a gravesite is weird but mostly shows signs of mental distress. I have lost my brother & best friend & I never considered anything like this.
My son is my only son & should he not come home from his deployment I will be truly heartbroken but I would never
resent his service to his country nor try to be an arm chair
Commander in Chief. Please keep the military out of politics.
Their oath is to defend the USA home & abroad. Declassified intelligence reports today verify Al Queda's determination to attack the US homeland.

Well, simply put.
Democrats are scared to be labeled as "against the troops" which is like putting them in front of a firing line of propaganda machine guns. They can't get anything done if that happens, and while most of the democratic congressman are against the war, they lack the guts to try an impeachment, have him resign, and be stuck witha president named Dick, who might suffer from a heart attack at any time.
Republicans are trying to show party support to defeat the democrats. They won't budge because Bush supports most of their conservative values, and they feel if they support they war, they won't be called out and pulled into the crossfire.

It's a mystery, isn't it? Dems in Congress claim it got a mandate in November to start bringing the troops home and ending the war. Once sworn in, they've wimped out at every turn so far.
If the whole country hates Bush and they have the Congress and the backing of the Dem party, what's the problem?

It is amazing to see just how many "Americans" have been brain washed or deceived these days. : (
As stated above, all of the troops knew what they were signing up for when they joined the armed forces. I feel for there loss, but now they are remembered as heroes, but yet many want to ridicule our president for sending them there. Whether you like it or not he is the president and should be respected! But thats not how things are these days, Everything is taking a turn for the worst into todays society. I dont blmae this on Bush either, I believe it is the liberals fault.

They're not frightened of him. They're frightened of the reaction the American people might have to Congress pulling the plug on the war. Such an action could be plausibly described as marking the military defeat of the US. That's not something any prudent politician wants to take responsibility for.

If you really believe that we can just pull out and say adieu to Iraqis as if we were never there- you are mistaken. We need a solution (a combination of political and some sort of military presence)- it is not that easy. Dems know that.
The truth is that no one knows the Best answer.

The only choice they have is to cut off funding, period. Obviously they do not have the votes to accomplish this. The Republicans will never vote to cut funding and without 12 of them, the Democrats hands are tied. Bush will get away with leaving the Iraq war for the next President to resolve, which I think is a disgrace.

It's only my opinion. Bush makes a point to find something that can be used against the Congress persons. This is why they are afraid of him.
