There is really no way to cover the topic well in a single post. I would suggest you start off by reading this page and the links at the bottom.

Hope that helps

First, you need water. Then again, we all need water. Second, you need a tank. However many fish you get, you must adjust your tank. A good rule of thumb is to have one gallon of water per one inch of fish. For example. If you have seven inches of fish, then get a 10 gallon tank because a 5 gallon tank is too small. Of course, the higher the capacity, the more expensive it is. Third, you need a filter. If you get a tank, I would recommend that you get a tank that has a filter packaged in the tank. This would be a very good financial decision. Fourth, you need filter cartridges. These vary between sizes, so when you get your filter, get the filter cartridge that matches the filter. Fifth, you need food. I would recommend that you purchase flakes, as sometimes pellets might "choke" the fish that you get, depending on the size. Sixth, you need decorations. Actually, you do not need these, but fish like having obstacles while swimming. It makes them smarter in a way. Seventh, gravel or sand. I would use gravel to line the bottom because it would not cloud the water. Eighth, you need water conditioner, especially when using tap water. I would use AquaSafe because it somehow allows you to change the water less frequently. Finally, I would get some fish. This is the most important part, considering that this is a FISH tank. I would use small goldfish, if you are a first-time fish caretaker, but if you have more experience, I would move on to larger fish and maybe other kinds of fish, but they might need more equipment. Go to tetracare.com and sign up for an account. It would provide you with some information about creating a fish tank. Good luck!

if its a betta then a small bowl of any kind and some freeze dried blood worms, all other fish afive, ten gallon or more tank, a filter, a hood with lights, a airstone and airpump. then whatever kind of fish you have food. I know at wal mart and at meijer they sell full fish kits, the mini bow tank kit is very flashy and adds color to any home with all needed supplies for 40 dollars, then thiere are store kits that range from 40 dollars for the 10 gallon kit, to 150 for the 50 gallon kit, if you have salt water fish give them away as theu are costly and hard to keep alove for first time fish, most of the sets come with
tank
hood
lights
filter
heat
so you'll need to purchase gravel, not sand, you need those fake plants, some decor like a piece of drift wood or plastic castle, fish food, air pump, and a siphon for cleaning, this will run you about 50 to 300 dollars, but then you'll spend almost nothing on food. bigger tank is better as you can add more fish and it really liven up the house
very important to get aqua safe which is sold at both wal mart and miejer, it will make it so you can put your fish in the tank that same day.
Do allow the fish to sit in the orginal bag they came in and put it in the new tank let them stay thier for an hout then without getting any of the water from the bag release them into the treated tank.
really you are suppose to set up a tank days before you get the fish and the tank gets foggy after the first few days to a week it will go away if it does not you are feeding too much

Hmmm...it depends on the type of fish and how many you're talking about.
Basics for tropical freshwater fish are a tank, a filter, a heater, a substrate (gravel, sand, etc), preferably a lid and a light, and again, depending on the type of fish, some sort of decoration, food, water conditioner, and preferably a water test kit for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates.
If you're referring to goldfish, they need the same type set up minus the heater, but do require 10 gallons each.
What type of fish are you looking to keep?

depends on the fish- obviously you need an aquarium, a light, a hood, and a stand. if they are tropical you need a heater and a temperature strip to keep the water between 76-78. fish need a filter and some air bubble strips to be happy- depending on breed- start with something easy like a convict- with a pleco- to eat the algea- keep the light on about 10 hours a day
