words really only hurt when you give importance to the person who says them but there is also the saying water off a ducks back, believe me if you are insulted enough you are more impressed when someone says an insult you haven't heard before, so the older you get the less you care , so to sum up sticks and stones can break your bones so the next time you get insulted just pick up that brick and smash it repeatedly into your insulter's face and repeat the words" sticks and stones break bones your words didn't hurt me" and make sure there are no witnesses, be strong.

Words can be more hurtful than anything because they wound the soul. That is a good saying to use as a reminder not to let words hurt because not everyone is going to be kind with their words. The statement is true only if you believe it and stick with it.

Not true at all!
This reminds me of a story a good friend told me recently... When he was a kid, some other kids were 'hurting' him with words, and his dad advised him to use that statement to them......
The next day, they turned up with sticks and stones....
I shouldn't laugh, but LMAO ;)

Not very true!!
My mom is a perfect example!! Her words are like a razor sharp knife, she can awlays shred me up into a million pieces just with her words! I always try to be strong and ignore her and shut out all that she's saying but to no avail, she will always make me feel like dirt at the end of the day!
Sigh!

not true. words always hurt people. atleast they hurt me a lot. because when people wouldnt dare physically they hurt you by saying things that arent true and hurt you emotionally. so that part is not true at all for me. but for people with a lot of courage and self esteem, or a big ego sometimes the last part is true.

The human tongue is the greatest and meanest weapon at our disposal. There are more people that are permanently damaged in reputation, murdered in actuality , by the command of a person with lack of conscience by a mere word of the human tongue. Words can hurt and even in a more dangerous way.

The only words that hurt me are the ones that come from my loved ones. The gp can kiss my a** if they don't like me.

Sounds harsh, but it's the only way to remain happy in this world.
