well there are a lot of them, i prefer xoftspy, you can get the key by looking it up on google and it should give you a link to a yahoo questions where one of the answers will tell you, but xoftspy is really fast and found a lot of things that programs i paid for did not find, others would recommend AVG but i think its a waste and uses up too much RAM
Overall:xoftspy

I like Active Virus Shield. A lot. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test chart is here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82

Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram)

Active Virus Shield detects and removes spyware, also.

And it updates up to 15 times a DAY with new virus definitions, 7 days a week!

Good stuff, free for everyone from:

Here is an excellent free antivirus program from AOL, Active Virus Shield powered by kaspersky Labs of Russia. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. AOL will only ask you for your email address so they can send you a free key good for one year. After one year just request a new key. You will get auto updates every hour on the hour, plus background scanner that is excellent.

Well for one thing don't use Avg or Avast. Try Avira Antivir PE or AOL Activeshield. Activeshield is a good scanner but it uses an older engine from Kaspersky so it won't be as effective as Avira.

You need full time (active) virus protection and full time spyware protection.

All the following programs are free.
---------------------------------------------
Full Time (Active) Virus Protection
If you do not have active virus protection, install only one. All are excellent.

AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition

or
Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

or
AOL Active Virus Shield

Full Time (Active) Spyware Protection

Windows Defender

Install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They will greatly increase your protection. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.

Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)
