Why won't my Paper Mario game work with my GameShark 64 cartridge?

My Paper Mario game won't work with my gameshark 64 cartridge, and I can't figure out why. Anyone know anything about stuff like this?

Your gameshark is probably an outdated version. Also, the N64 gameshark has a nasty habit of becoming corrupted, and quit working altogether.

Paper Mario was released pretty late in the life of the N64, so the availability of the GS that will work on it is probably pretty small.
