There are all kinds of places if it is just a summer job. Try Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and even the fast food places.

Some people say to get a job that's "fun" during your summer break. I disagree, to an extent. If your child is a wee bit spoiled (as in not having a job even though he's 17), then you may want to suggest that he get a job that sucks. When he complains to you about how much the job sucks and how he hates it, remind him that some people are unfortunate enough to have to do that job for a living. Remind him that it's exactly what could happen to him if he doesn't take advantage of his good situation and study hard in school. That should give him the proper motivation to want to study and do well in college ;)
Then again, if he's a good kid who's NOT spoiled and DOES have motivation to succeed, then suggest that he get an easy, "fun" job.

Well, I suppose that's up to your son, his interests, and talents, but I would suggest something related to what he wants to study or even just something fun so that he can have a last taste of childhood before college.

If he is good with kids he could work at a summer camp. Lanscaping generally pays well during the summer months.
