You can not log in with the account and try to change the account type. Log in as administrator under safe mode (press F8 more than a few times when the comptuer starts up. A command screen will show up and ask to start XP in which mode, select safe mode at this point, "administrator" is the user name, and leave the password blank. When in safe mode, there are no needs to make any display changes even though the screen resolution is bad. That is just the way safe mode is.)
After safe mode, go to control panel->user accounts, and select your account to change the type.

Your account must be messed up. To create a fresh account, restart your computer. Once the screen with your computer information loads, press-and-hold F8. Select "Safe Mode." You should see an "Administrator" account in big letters. Click, go to control panel > user accounts > new account.
