Things like TV and the movies make it look cool. And once you start smoking, you are often hooked. It's an addiction. I had a great 8th grade teacher who told us about her father (he had emphysema) and showed us pictures of lungs of people who smoked (looked like the inside of a chimney). So I decided I never would smoke.

When I started smoking, I did it because it gave me a buzz. I was fourteen and naive. After a little while, I felt a bit addicted to them. As much as I love the feeling of smoking and the taste, I know that I need to quit. It is really really tough. The longest I made it was 3 weeks. Imagine doing something everyday, 20 times a day, for 10 years. And then imagine no longer doing it. It became not only a mental addiction, but a physical one as well. They say that it is easier to kick heroin than to quit smoking. So there are a few reasons why I smoke and why I have not quit.

People used to think it was 'cool'. But it is an addiction. Once hooked, it is hard to kick the habit. My dad never could. He started smoking at a VERY young age.

You are right, it's not cool. It is a personal choice.

Don't dog on the smokers, we don't dog on you because you don't.
