I live in a town of about 5000 people and I bet we have 15 churches here. Every small, medium and large city in America has a church (I'm guessing) almost every 5 miles or so, sometimes, 3 or 4 churches on one block. Don't fundamentalists think it's a little alarmist to say we're losing our Christian values??? America probably has more Christian churches per capita than any other nation on Earth.

B. Kevorkian, I kinda see where you're going, but I still maintain that we have more than our share of christianity in this country at the moment and it is in no danger of being hurt in any way.

Absolutely. I keep telling them, you can't have it BOTH ways.
Either you're in the religious "majority" or you're the underdog, experiencing "persecution."
There are a lot of Christians in this country; problem is that a certain cross-section of them who are ultra-fundamental seem to think that THEY are the "true" Christians, and everyone else is just a bunch of "wanna-be's." And anything LESS than the way they pray and weep is somehow "less" Christian.
America is "evolving."
Got that, "Christians?" Evolving.
And you cannot - no matter how much you would wish - pull some giant hand brake and stop things like it's 1955 and you're Ward & June Cleaver.
Christians were never meant to be uniform, like so many sausage links.
And we wonder why we have so many religious problems in the world...

Wow, when did respect for human life, raising respectful and loving children, importance of marriage and family, and helping your neighbor all become such horrible things to strive towards?
"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." 2Tim. 4:3-4

No. I'm not concerned about the secularization of America, but I'm not about to gloat about it, either. I also don't find a false claim funny - if the claim is false. It's hard to say - there are a lot of churches, but a lot of them are wishy-washy non-denominational or liberalized ones that don't much represent the predominantly protestant 'christian roots' of the country - others are looney pentacostals who also don't much connect to said roots. So a lot of crosses per capita hardly disproves the assertion.
In fact, the nation could both be losing it's 'Christian roots' (including it's constitutional gaurantee of religous freedom) /and/ simultaneously be endangered by a newlly radicalized brand of christianity.
And, that's no laughing matter.

Yes, but my personal favorite is when Christians claim to be "the most persecuted minority in America." Now that's a joke if I ever heard one. Personally, I'd be content to see every last church and religious institution in America close. Religious superstitions are plague on humanity and the sooner we dump these silly stone age beliefs and practices, the better.

No, I don't laugh when Fundamentalists say America is losing its Christian roots. But I do laugh when some big tragedy like 9/11 happens and everyone starts in with all the "God bless America!" I mean why would He? Does America bless Him?

christian roots are being lost when people believe a government and a religious organization can be intertwined in a political power-play manner, without corrupting both.
other than that, if America is losing its "Christan roots", those people making those claims need to take responsibility for their own families rather than ignoring them to persecute all other "evil doers"!

From the Desk of Rev. Jim.
Attention Americans !!!
We are not losing our Christian values. We are simply redefining some of them. A religion that cannot grow and change as it's members mature will grow stale, stagnate, and eventually die.
Also, We as citizens of these United States have the right to Religious freedom. Some of us, myself included, are NOT Christian. However, we generally do not sit and judge the Christians while they degrade our choice of religion.
May your God by whatever name you call Him/Her Bless you on this Day of Days.
