(2/3)^2=2/3*2/3=4/9
(2/3)^3=2/3*2/3*2/3=8/27

Power as a concept refers to a thing multiplied times itself.
3 to the power of 3=3x3x3 or 27.

So in your example, 2/3 to the power of 1 is 2/3.
2/3 to the power of two is 4/9.
And 2/3 to the power of three is 8/27.

The power distributes over numerator and denominator:

(1) n^0 = 1
(2) n^1 = n
(3) n^p means n used as a factor p times...
n * n * n * n * . . . * n
1 . 2 . 3 . 4 . . . . . ..p

According the the second item listed above, (2/3)^1 = 2/3

(2/3)² = (2/3)(2/3) = 4/9 according to item 3 listed above

(23)³ = (2/3)(2/3)(2/3) = 8/27, also according to item 3 listed above.
