See a doctor and if it is broken, you will find out and know how to take care of it properly.
I didn't do anything when I fell on my finger running upstairs 15 yrs ago. Finger swelled and I went to the drugstore & bought a splint, but it must have been broken because after it healed, the finger was crooked (doesn't match the one on my other hand anymore).

Begin now to alternate ice with heat for 15-20 minutes each. Take an anti-inflammatory like motrin. The swelling should go down slowly. If you jammed it, pulling on it gently after the swelling goes down will help. If you broke it, you might need to see a doctor and splint it.

Everyone is right...you can still put ice on it, and take an anti inflammatory...but do NOT put any heat on it until tomorrow if you need to...usually heat is not necessary, unless it is a muscle injury.
