I live on a river, so there are a ton of bugs!

Anything that clouds the eye of the sensor will set off the sensor.
Passive infer red detects movement and heat.

So if the cloud of bugs is big enough yes.
But a squirrel in your yard NO.
Kind of confusing but that is how it works.
Even though the bugs are cold blooded, enough will trigger it. Even though the squirrel is warm blooded, it is too small.
You, a dog, an ex-husband, Oh Wait those are cold blooded....The ex, not the dog!

i'm getting a equipment put in this week and that i asked a similar question as a results of fact I relatively have a small dogs. i replaced into advised that they set the equipment so as that any action that's led to via something weighing below a set volume (ex. 20 kilos considering the fact that I relatively have a ten pound dogs) won't spark off the alarm.

Most of those sensors are set to ignore small animals like cats and small dogs. I'd hate to think of the swarm you'd need to set off the sensor.......ick.

I don't think so but I don't know for sure. I think some of it depends on how sensitively you have the lights set.
