i work for a small family firm. Each week at staff meetings I like to bring up issues related to women's menstruation. My boss has asked me not to do this - but I believe that this is a free country so I have ignored this. This week I brought it up again in the office meeting - I tried to say that the company should be more eco friendly and perhaps encouarage more women to re- useable sanitary products like menstrual cups, sponges and cloths. I said that if the boss suggested this to his wife then other women were more likely to follow.
My boss then told me to leave the meeting./
He marched me outside and muttered something about me needing help, I began talking more abut menstrual cups and he grabbed me by the arm and shook me. He quickly let go, then said sorry and said that I was driving him spare. he asked me not to rejoin the meeting.
Since then he has avoided me.
Where do I stand

Personally, If I was the boss & had asked you not to bring a subject as unprofessional as that up in a board meeting. I'd have fired you. Period. (pun intended)
As for you options now, you can press charges for assault if you wish. I hope for your cases sake that you have witnesses that can back you up.

Well he had no right to put his hands on you. But is this assault? Don't think so. But that is something you can follow up on.
What kind of company is this? Is it par for course to bring up "menstrual cramps" or "menstruation" problems. I'm a female and I might feel rather uncomfortable with this sort of thing being brought up at a company meeting.
Anyway, your boss did ask you not to bring up such issues and you chose to ignore him.
You sound as though you are pushing sanitary products.
Why not just use them yourself. and if someone asks, advise them.
But to talk about these issues in a company meeting, AFTER being asked not to, is extremely discourteous and not in good taste either.
If you were my employee under the same circumstances, and I am a female, I would have let you go.
Like "fired."

The un-employment line if you worked for me. You would have been asked once to refrain from such topics, and if you had persisted I would have fired you.
This is a free country... up to a limit... When you infringe upon the rights of others, you have crossed the line...
Women's menstruation issues are not appropriate at staff meetings unless you work for Tampax (R).
Since you have broken the boundaries set by your employer many times, count you blessings that you have a job....
IF I were him, I would fire you for harassment and Insubordination...

Enjoy your time at your work... I am sure that time is limited.

You stand as a liar who makes up stories to get attention. You're probably not even a woman, but a middle school boy who thinks the word "menstruation" is funny.

You sound like you are a real pain in the posterior. He may not have been in the right to grab your arm and shake you but you asked for it in my opinion. You want to sue him, go ahead. Be prepared to have your entire life examined in a microscope.

Well he should not have shook you...but your ascertainment that this is a free country is incorrect...at work an employer can censor your speech...I would listen to him from now on...before your job is at risk.

In the meantime he is guilty of simple assault if you want to press charges.

You stand as an immature person who did not respect your employer's warning. It got you the wrong kind of attention.

I'm not sure what he did was right, but I don't blame him. If I was him I'd probably do a lot worse than that. You seem kinda weird. I'm sure he was annoyed. I would be too.

If I were your boss, I would sue you for harassment, you are clearly harassing the men in the firm.
