Genetics and environment.
You're genetically predisposed to follow in your ancestors' footsteps. If your female relatives got their periods around this time, then you will most likely follow suit.
However, recent studies show that girls are getting their periods earlier than 30 years ago by an average of 6-7 months. The researchers suggest that this may be caused by hormones in our environments (food and water most specifically).

Because actual studies tell us that evey decade or so the growth hormones mature faster. so lets just say your mom got hers at age 16 and shes now 43, and you were born when she was around 30, you would brobably have your period around age 12-14. Also if you are obese, that could cause hormones to mature faster and your pancreas(which controls hormones and growth) can also cause that. Hope my answer helps you!

I don't know how old you are, but sweetie, that's just how it works! For different people, they get their period at different ages. Some get them when they're 8. Some get them when they're 16. And really, don't be envious of a person who gets their period before you do, because once you get your period, your stuck with it until your 60. I hope I've helped you!

Because that is when their hormones kick in. It can be a hereditary thing... Ask your mom when she started having periods....
My daughter started about the same age as I did.

It's probably because of our hormones. Our hormones probably start to act more quickly now. BUt it depends on when your mother gets it. If your mom gets it around 11 you probably will get it around there, too.
Real answer: Uncertain.

genetics and most of the time depends on your weight! if the child is young but obese (or close to it) they will have a greater chance of getting their period earlier then girls who are smaller.

The answer is unknown for certain, but many believe it is the preservatives and hormones in food.
