Teachers are people too with lives that have more in them than just volleyball and teaching. The best responses I've gotten is when we've given a giftcard for a favorite restaurant.
Casually ask for ideas on a good restaurant for a special occasion (your parent's anniversary or something) to find out where they like to go.
Be sure to get a menu for carryout if available to give with the card.
They have PLENTY of perfumes, candles, body gels, lotions, etc etc.
You may want to get her an engraved whistle to remember you by. Make sure it's good quality professional coach's whistle and have it done at Things Remembered or some other engraving store.

You could get her a ball signed by someone she admires, or a shirt (check eBay) But if she teaches anything else, get her something she can use in the classroom. There is never enough money for school/art supplies, and we teachers spend a lot of our own money to supplement the little we can get from the schools. Elementary and middle school teachers always need extra pencils, markers, erasers, whatever , for kids who don't bring them or can't afford them. High school teachers can use supplies for whatever they teach --protractors for math, reference books or maps for English or Social Studies, etc. When you're in her class, LISTEN -- she may mention an author she really likes, or a DVD or CD she'd like. Anything you do will be appreciated, but skip the coffee mug -- I got 9 last year!

As a teacher i always liked getting a card... with a gift card :O) in the first year a teacher teaches they get more "teaching" gifts than you could imagine... after a while a mug gets boring.. i think that with a gift card a teacher can get what they really want.

A desk planner!?! Hell no!
Something homemade? Come on, we don't want your crap!
Cold hard cash, baby! (A gift card is the next best thing)
*Seriously, it is unethical for teachers to accept gifts from students of any significant value. Candy or cookies are a good option. But really, the best gift is a personal note thanking the teacher and explaining why you liked their class. Teachers keep these forever.

All teachers really use and appreciate a good desk planner for the next year. Not too big to fit into a handbag, not so small that you don't have room to make good notes.

I am a teacher. My favorite was and is a hand-written note from a student telling me what my teaching has meant to him/her.
Forget gift cards and desk planners. I teach to make a difference in children. The BEST gift is a child thanking me for teaching, loving and guiding him/her. I have every note written to me and I treasure every single one of them.
Forget American Express....."Pricless" is a note from the heart.

I would say a gift card to Barnes & Noble, Office Depot, or any type of teacher supply store. If you think she would like something sports related, get her a gift card to a sporting goods store.

teachers will appreciate anything that you give them. giving a teacher something that can be used in the classroom is always good. i am a first year teacher, and my students gave me a variety of things... things that helped in the classroom were great... cards are nice too... i had students give me things that meant something to both of us. for example, a student and i would always talk about cars... so that student gave me a minature bug. it was cute... i will always remember that student, by that...
gift cards are nice too... maybe get it for some place that they can get things for the classroom..
