As the question says. My Norton trial has ran out. I dont want a big file to download as my laptop slows down so much. Free would be the icing on the cake.

Thanks in advance

*Never install more than one anti-virus on your PC, as they may conflict with each other. On the other hand, its always good to install more than one anti-spyware.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus is generally considered the best available free AV software. You are looking at around a 20MB download to install it, plus a little extra for the initial virus-definition updates, but that should be manageable even if you are on a dial-up connection.

The latest version of AVG AV Free Edition can be found at
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10669237.html
They will push their other products (which aren't free) but if you ignore that, the protection AVG provides is very good, and unbeatable for a free product.

You can test them out individually, if you want. However, do not have more than ONE Anti-Virus program running on your computer!

Here is an excellent free program from AOL, Active Virus Shield powered by kaspersky Labs, Russia. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. You will get auto updates every hour on the hour, plus has a real time scanner in the background that works excellent. AOL, will only ask you for your emal so they can send you a free key good for one year. After one year just request a new key.
