Well the easiest way is to take out your calculater and enter 7 divided by 8 and the answer is 0.875

However, if you want to do this by hand it would go like this:

1. 8 doesnt go into 7 so add 0 to seven making 70.
2. 8 goes into 70 eight (8) times (8x8=64)
3. Subtract 64 from 70 to get remainder of 6 (add another 0 giving 60)
4. 8 goes into 60 seven (7) times (8x7=56)
5. Subtract 56 from 60 giving remainder of 4 (add another 0 giving 40)
6. 8 goes into 40 five (5) times (8x5=40)
7. Subtract 40 from 40 giving a remainder of zero.
8. Once remainder is zero you're done with the division.

70
-64 (8x8)
------
60
-56 (7x8)
-------
40
-40 (5x8)
-------
0

So the answer by long hand division is the same as above 0.875.
