It is more difficult than it once was ! And I'm not kidding !
I got 4 youngsters signed to major labels over the years,
working with 2 females now. System is saying no more chick singers, we are full.
Basically, you need to put (at your expense) a CD with at least 1 hit single, produced, bar coded, and ready to market on the desk of the A&R guys, then keep your fingers crossed.
The "labels" do not want to work any more, take no chances.
