You go by whatever you like best, and nuts to everybody else! People are going to like (or not like) you based on your personality... if they like you, they will end up loving whatever name you go by. If they don't like you, it doesn't matter if call yourself Princess Di... they still won't like you.

I don't think it's 1800, more like 1900. Which means it must be about to leap back into fashion like other names from that period have done recently - such as Hope and Grace.
Lily or Lillie is very now and getting quite common. Go by whatever name you feel comfortable with - remember it won't do you any harm to be a bit different and not follow the crowd!

In a profesional setting, such as a job interview or a college application then I'd used Lillian. But if you feel more comftorable with Lillie, then I'd go by that around your friends and at school. Lillian is a pretty name, but it can be a mouth full if your speaking quickly.

Go ahead and name her Lillian. She can always be called Lillie for short. I named my son Dexter and a lot of people complained they didn't like the name. However now that he is here, he is the only Dexter that anyone knows and I like that. Different is good and you can't go wrong with old school :)

Lillian is pretty, but I agree that Lilly or Lillie seems more modern. My cousin named her baby girl Vivian, 3 yrs ago, and at first I thought it was so old fashioned, but now I really like it. Vivian Martine is her name.

I think Lillian is a beautiful classic name, people might say it's old just because it is not as trendy anymore. Lillie is pretty too. You should go by whatever you are most comfortable with.

Lillian is lovely! The Lily names are quite fashionable at the moment (for babies), so I think you will see more people coming around to Lillian. I like both Lillian/Lily, so it's up to you to decide which you like best. Lucky you, you can go by both if you wanted!
