The moon rotates one every 28 days, it's orbit is also 28 days and that keeps the same side of the moon facing the earth. The other side of the moon isn't the dark side of the moon, it's just the side facing away from us.
Funny thing is that if the moon's orbit and spin weren't the same we might have recognized it for what it really is long before the birth of science. The ancients would see the moon rotate and think that maybe we would be doing the same thing. Copernicus' and Galileo's ideas may have been main stream thought by the time they were born, instead of their ideas being religious heresy.
