It makes no difference whatsoever. All that matters is practicing a lot and being lucky enough that you are good if you practice a lot.

Unless you go look it up, you probably have NO idea what kind of guitars your favorite guitarists use, and the truth is they would sound almost exactly the same if you asked them to play some other guitar!

The only real factor to consider is to buy a thicker body guitar if you prefer a "bluesy", Gibson-type sound, or a thinner-body Fender-style guitar if you want a more "rock" sound.

My favorite guitar is a 1962 Fender Musicmaster I bought at a yard sale in 1970 for less than a hundred bucks!

Fender makes some of the finest guitars. I have seen tons of bands play live, and you will almost always see a Fender. You're probably looking for a more specific answer, but just play as many as you can. Every guitar is different. Even two that are made with the exact same parts. Just play play, play.
For the money, you can't beat a Fender. Even for a lot of money(as shown by many popular bands) you can't beat a Fender

DO NOT BUY A SQUIER! They are the cheap version of a strat. You should buy a real strat or an inexpensive Ibanez. I have an Ibanez that was only $200 and its amazing.
