I heard there's going to be a software that you can download onto your Wii which allows you to play DVDs. Is this true? If it is, where can I download it? Is there another way to be able to play DVD's? thanks

Wii CAN play DVD but its not supported yet. I'm sure nintendo will come up with DVD channel on the wii shop channel. Maybe you have to wait but I don't know how long. If you cannot wait, there are some people who can hack the wii and make it play DVD movie but you need to open up your console which would void your warranty.

GAH!...look for similar resolved questions before posting your questions...I have answered this question so many times it is not funny... so here it is for the last time Nintendo are looking into a new Wii model in Japan that wil play DVD's, they are not sure if it can be done with the current hardware or if they can do it with a simple update or channel download. If it needs new hardware to do it then it will be released in Japan first then maybe the rest of the world if it sells well. If it just needs an update then it will be released world wide via the shop channel or system update. The reason they didnt include it was because it would have cost more and almost every home has at least 1 dvd player or a console that already plays DVD's...

The Wii cannot play DVD's or CD's. This was left off the machine as a cost cutting measure and since a stand alone dvd player can be purchased for under 30 bucks. There have be talk of releasing a new version of the wii with dvd/cd playback capability.

You can't play DVDs on the Wii because the Wii's disc drive wasn't designed for movie DVDs. Its gonna be a long time until they make the Wii able to play DVDs.

I don't think it's possible to turn the Wii into a DVD player via firmware update. I think the Wii needs to have the DVD player hardware to play DVD, and I don't think the Wii has it.
There are plans in Japan to make Wii that can play DVD.

I heard that they were going to make a software so the Wii would play DVD's but they decided not to do it because they said that most players have enough DVD players.

I have not heard of this. As far as i know the wii cannot play dvds and probably never will.

wii can't play dvd, but if you get one of the wii modchip you will play any cd and dvd.
