In grade well circulated with the word Liberty on headdress visible but weak, the 1863-dated Indian Head cent has a retail of $15. In average circulated with slight wear on word Liberty is priced at $20. A grade up to nice circulated with Liberty sharp and slight wear on ribbon end is $35, while an almost uncirculated specimen with all details sharp and hair above the ear only slightly worn is about $65. Very worn condition 1863 Indian Head cent with no Liberty visible or only a few letters present on the headband is being sold for around $10 to $13.

The 1863 Indian Head cent is worth $5.50 in grade good-Coin worn, full rims and liberty in head band gone.$7.00 in fine-Liberty mostly visible(all Letters). It is worth more if the coin is in a higher grade such as very slight traces of wear. The above values are about what a dealer will pay. The coin has more history value then money value. it was minted during th Civil War. being minted late in the war some Union Soldier may have had it in his pocket. Your coin has a history to tell.

The penny that you described is selling on E-bay anywhere from $1 - $15 dollars. The most expensive one that I saw was $35 dollars. But aside from this, there doesn't seem to be much demand for these types of pennies, thus, the cheap prices. If you are wanting to sell, your best bet will probably be to speak with someone who buys/sells old coins, an antique shop, or some museum. Otherwise, you may not bring in very much.

As with all coins it largely depends on the condition of the coin. In average circulated condition your coin would retail for $7.00 to $12.00. A dealer would offer you less as he would only be able to sell it for $7.00 to $12.00.
