Cardiac muscle is found only in the heart. It is similar in many ways to skeletal muscle (in that the actin and myosin are very highly organized, so it appears striated, as does skeletal muscle). However, each cell has a single nucleus (skeletal muscle is multinucleate), and it tends to branch extensively. A major difference is that it does not require stimulation by a nerve to contract; it is autogenic (due to pacemaker cells in the SA node) and fires action potentials spontaneously, which causes the contraction.

Cardiac muscle. It has a different structure from the other two types (smooth and skeletal) that allows the heart to do it's job correctly.
