With all the advances in communications, hypersonic travel, globalization, etc I think it's inevitable that in a few centuries the world will be one culture without borders. I know people are reluctant sometimes because of national pride and stuff but it is inevitable that our planet will unite with one government and a culture that is a combination of all the cultures. Hopefully the World Government will value individual freedoms and democracy. No one wants a worldwide fascist or communist police state!

I agree. Throughout history the trend points to just that. Civilization started with small tribes and clans, moved on slowly to small nations, then bigger nations, and it keeps going like that. A country the size of Russia for example could never have been held together a few thousand years ago.

So, yes, I think it is inevitable that one day there will be a world government and culture. Most likely though, is thatll itll be a big democracy of sorts with many "states" and such.

But before that can be a success everyone on earth has to be brought to the same basic economic level, so that everyone feels they have a stake in their world and in world peace. Thats one of the big problems in the world today is poverty. Take the Middle East for example, who are the ones most likely to become terrorists there? Young, poor, Muslims who have been taught that suicide bombing will bring them rewards in Heaven and that their situation on earth is going to stay the same. Ghettos and poor areas produce more violence than wealthier areas. Everyone has to be on the same level if peace is ever to be achieved, and so, what I was getting at, if the world isnt all at roughly the same level by the time this world government rolls around, it will fail. That was my point.

Good question.

Not possible with all the diversity of cultures and patriotic pride getting in the way. Your Star Trek version of reality will never exist, atleast not in this dimension.
In response to Phillip H's comment, America is not "the last great hope for mankind", quite the contrary. If this is true mankind is in serious trouble. America is reaching its pinnacle and will very shortly begin a steady decline into rot and decay, just like the Roman Empire before it.

It's impossible to be one government... Look how bringing democracy to the Middle East is being handled. We would destroy ourselves before there is one government. That is why we'll never achieve Utopia.

Read the book The Giver. It's a relatively short book and reads at a 7th grade reading level.

No, there will never be a world government unless some dictator manages to conquer the world. There are too many cultural, regional, and philosophical differences.

Freedom is in constant economic crisis. The ONLY way that freedom knows to end such crisis' is world-war. America has got it the worst - by a long long margin - and Americans are being prepared for the world-war that America needs to end her economic problems. The solution is: either we remove those forcing us to live in this destructive genocidal economic system, or those forcing us to live in this destructive genocidal economic system will have us destroying ourselves in yet another destructive genocide: to regenerate the markets. Those forcing us to live in this destructive genocidal economic system OWN the media. They even control our thoughts.

Then where will all the immigrants who want to flee repression go?
America is the last great hope for mankind and world government cannot exist unless America is brought down to the level of the rest of the world.

Probably will not happen without some large catastrophe. To much riding on each countries economies – look at the EU – they could not even get 10 countries together.

No, you can't get the UN to agree on things, what you think a world government can do, nothing but fight with each other.
